Set against a background of real events. Kuri and Keigi are brothers living with their assumed parents in a small fishing village. Compared to many in 1180 Japan their lifestyle is idyllic, with plenty of food, healthy work and beautiful girls. However, the arrival of Minamoto samurai change their lives forever. Kuri is taken away and Keigi is left as an unknowing decoy for the Taira, the Minamoto's sworn enemies, who arrive shortly after. Kuri learns his true identity and is sent on a vital, secret mission, on which his clan's survival may depend, to the Imperial City controlled by Taira Kiyomori, the man who sent samurai to capture him. After a fierce battle with the Taira in the village, Keigi escapes. Directed by his dying father to the Imperial City he meets Kuri on the road. They have the same objective: an important Lord in the Imperial City. However, events alter objectives. Can two young fishermen battle highly trained samurai? Why does a beautiful Geisha protect Kuri? Why is Kuri's real mother a prisoner in the Imperial City? Will Kuri stand by his clan or do Blood Ties Lie? Kuri's objective becomes one of deadly revenge.
